As the year 2009 comes to a close, on behalf of the Selangor Branch Committee, I would like to express our thanks to all members, government agencies, friends and donors for your continous support in our programs and humanitarian services.

We look forward to working closely with all of you to build a well-functioning Cawangan and Chapters in the coming year. We encourage all to join us in the activities and networking events that have been earmarked for 2010.

Sebelum akhirnya Bulan Syawal pada tahun ini, saya ingin mengucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada ahli-ahli serta sukarelawan saudara se-Islam Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia (Cawangan Selangor) dengan Ingatan Tulus Ikhlas Maaf Zahir Batin.

Untuk perayaan Deepavali yang akan disambut pada 17 Oktober 2009 ketika umat Islam masih merayakan Aidilfitri, saya berharap kita ambil peluang keemasan di antara kita mengukuhkan hubungan antara kaum dalam se-erti kata semangat 1Malaysia.

SELANGOR BRANCH HOST IFTAR RAMADHAN AND BUKA PUASA

The Selangor Branch, recently hosted a 'buka puasa' function with the orphans and 'orang asli' children from:

(i) Rumah Titian Kasih
(ii) Surau Al-Usra, Gombak
iii) Rumah Sinar Harapan, Cabang Hulu Selangor
(iv) Persatuan Dyslexia Malaysia
(v) Pusat Jagaan from Cabang Kuala Langat and Gombak

Apart from them, Persons with Disabilities (OKU) and Single Mothers from:

(vi) Pusat Jagaan Elshaddai, Cabang Kuala Selangor
(vii) Pusat Sri Ratnavalli Ashram
(viii) Malaysian Federation of Deaf,

were amongst the 150 guests at the event.

YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sarifuddin Idris Shah , MRC Selangor Branch Advisor who was the special guest, said "hosting the breaking of fast event was the Branch's approach that would help the different communities to understand and respect each other cultures as well

YAM congratulated the National Committee of Community Services under the chairmanship of YAM Raja Zarith Sofiah for sponsoring the event together.

Puan Fatimah Sulaiman, the Branch Chairman said that this is the first time the Branch has come forth to host a buka puasa function and such activity would be held again if there are close collaboration with the National Committee's programs to foster good relations with everyone.

Thank you to the Committee members, Chapter's representatives, members volunteers, media and the band who joined in the function.

INTERNATIONAL TURKEY SUMMER CAMP 2009

International Turkey Summer Camp is an annual youth camp organized by Turkizilay (Turkish Red Cross) which will take place in different district every year. For this year, the camp was held in Mudanya,Bursa in Turkey from 12-23 July 2009.

Three members from Selangor Branch was selected to participate in the camp. They are Ms. Tan Su Chyi from Gombak District, Mr. Chai Sim Por from MMU and Ms. Nurawatif from KUIS. There were 20 countries who joined this camp and total was 70 participants for this year.

The motto for this year's camp is "My Worth in the Movement". In the camp, all the participants was given chance to presenting their own country's RC Movement and cultural during the RC Presentation night and International Night. The participants also got the chance to tour around the capital of Turkey which is Istanbul and also Bursa which is a city near Mudanya during the camp.

SEMINAR UUKA 09

On 16 August 2009, the Organising Committee of Chapter UKM IHL Committee organised their first albeit successful International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Seminar titled âOne Voice Towards Humanityâ at UKM campus attended by about 361 UKM students.

Puan Fatimah Sulaiman officiated the said Seminar followed by 3 lectures presented by Mr. Fork Yow Leong ( ICRC & The importance of IHL), Lt Kol Mohamad Hassan (Rtd)
( Persidangan-persidangan Geneva dan Protokol-Protokol Tambahannya) and Encik Abdul Rahim Bin Mat Yassim (Peranan dan Cabaran Dalam Undang-Undang Kemanusiaan Antarabangsa).

The students then sat for the âPeperiksaan Persijilan Pendidikan Palang Merah/Bulan Sabit Merah & Undang-Undang Kemanusiaan Antarabangsaâ. There was a stiff competition during the Kuiz UUKA Inter-Detachment. Congratulations to Detachments 88(L) which was declared the overall winner, the second place was 88(X) and third place was 88(W).

Cik Amy Poh has kindly donated the main Trophy that will be rotated amongst the winners in future similar Quiz. KUDOS to all for their tireless efforts.

RESOURCES PERSON SKILLS TRAINING FOR MRC YOUTH LEADERS ON HIV/AIDS

IPK BSMM telah bekerjasama dengan Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) untuk menganjurkan satu kursus untuk melatihkan ahli yang berpotensi untuk menjadi bakal jurulatih dalam bidang HIV/AIDS.

Fasilitator yang mengendalikan kursus ini merupakan jurulatih dari Malaysian AIDS Council. Mereka ialah Encik Surain A.Victor, Manis Chen dan Saedah Md. Rashid.

Urusetia yang telah bertungkus lumus untuk mengaturkan segala hal ehwal untuk kursus yang berjalan selama 3 hari tersebut ialah Puan Parvathi Rajoo @ Para dan Encik Zulhisham Abdul Jamil dari IPK BSMM.

25 peserta telah menghadiri kursus ini dan semua peserta merupakan ahli BSMM dari Cawangan Selangor dan Cawangan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
