EDUCATION IN RC/RC AND IHL COURSE 1/2008 FOR TEACHERS AND VAD MEMBERSSubmitted by administrator on 6 June 2008 - 1:40pm.
Introduction Once again this year MRC with the cooperation of ICRC has successfully conducted a basic course on Education in Red Cross and Red Crescent and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) for teaches and Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) members. This course was intended solely for members and teachers in Labuan as most of the previous courses, members from Labuan have difficulties in attending courses organized in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak for insufficient fund to support their airways fairs. All expenses for the course were borne by the program under ICRC Support for MRC Dissemination Activities for 2008. Course Objectives a. To introduce some basic subjects and knowledge on Education in Red Cross and Red Crescent (RC/RC) and the International Humanitarian Law to teachers and members of MRC VAD and b. To teach basic methods of teaching the subjects to school children in dissemination of RC/RC and IHL Venue The course was conducted at Tiara Hotel Labuan. Duration and Date It was a 4-day course from 15-18 May 2008. Organizers and Facilitators Malaysian Red Crescent and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are jointly organized the course and hosted by MRC Labuan Branch. Facilitators are MRC instructors, Lt Col (Ret) Mohamad b. Hassan, Manager IHL and Tn. Hj. Haris b. Ibrahim, Manager Training and also Mr. Sukhdave Singh and Ms. Muna Djuly from ICRC. Medium of Instruction The course was conducted in Malay language as the medium of instruction. But some reference books, pamphlets and hand-outs which have not been translated were still used in English. Participants Altogether there were 35 participants and all are teachers except the doctor and two nurses. Nearly all teachers and the doctor are non MRC members. Though the teachers are non MRC members they are encouraged to attend the course because they are teachers in charge of the MRC Youth Co-curriculum Activity members in schools. Closing/Opening Ceremony Both ceremonies were done at the same time, officiated by the Labuan Branch new Chairman, Mr. Deniss Yin Yew Jin. He also gave away the certificates to participants. Also attended the ceremony was Pn. Ainin Abd Manan, Director of MRC Training Institute from NHQ Kuala Lumpur. |
