EXECUTIVE DIPLOMA IN HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS (EDIHA)
COURSE INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION
1. Executive Diploma in Humanitarian Affairs (EDIHA) is a Diploma course for working adults who pursue for higher studies in International Laws and in International Humanitarian Laws (IHL) in particular, and to advance their careers in the related fields. It is designed to provide a framework of law and basic principles applicable to humanitarian relief work in times of armed conflict as well as natural disasters. It is intended for those who are interested in humanitarian affairs and to work for humanitarian organizations. The course is also useful for those who would like to enhance their knowledge in humanitarian affairs especially those who are working for the governmental and non-governmental agencies or the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
COURSE CENTRE
2. The course is jointly developed by the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Training Institute and Harun M. Hashim Law Centre of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), and is centred at the IIUM Campus in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.
TUTORS/LECTURERS
3. All lecturers and tutors are qualified professionals from the IIUM, Malaysian Armed Forces, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
DURATION AND PERIOD OF STUDIES
4. The course is programmed for a full diploma course of 10 subjects (20 contact hours per subject) for two semesters of one year and a certificate for one semester of six months. A student can take a certificate first and continue later to a full diploma but must complete within three years to obtain the diploma.
5. Apart from extra activities and assignments, the compulsory classes and period of studies are 4 hours on every Saturday and Sunday fortnightly (9.00 AM – 1.00 PM).

7.Semester 2 (Full Diploma)
1) International Human Right Law (IHRL)
2) Natural Disaster Management
3) Humanitarian Agencies
4) Implementation of IHL
LANGUAGE
8. The language for the course is English.
QUALIFICATIONS
9. Minimum qualifications required are:
- SPM 3 Credits with 3 years of working experience, or
- STPM 2 Principles with 2 years of working experience, or
- Diploma recognized by IIUM with 1 year working experience, and or
- Degree in any discipline recognized by IIUM
FEES
10. Total fee for a full Diploma Course is RM 7,000.00 and for a Certificate is RM 3,500.00 and RM 150.00 for entrance fee. Students can pay the course fee by instalments within the semesters.
COURSE COMMENCE AND PREREVIEW
11. The Course will commence on 19th of July 2008 and candidates are welcomed for a course preview at Harun M. Hashim Law Centre on Saturday, 3rd of May 2008 at 9.00 AM – 11.00 AM. At this time candidates will also be introduced to their lecturers.
