The Malaysian Red Crescent Society representative attended the Singapore Red Cross Society dinner in commemoration of its 60 years of humanitarian service at the Singapore Swimming Club on 11th September 2009.

The special guests for the dinner were Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Singapore Minister of Community, Development, Youth and Sports and Minister for Health respectively. The guests-of-honour President S.R. Nathan and the First Lady graced the dinner throughout the night from 7.30 to 10.30pm.

The welcome speech was delivered by Mr Tua Tee Ba, the chairman of the Singapore Red Cross, followed by a sumptuous Chinese dinner, and a slideshow depicting the beginning of the organization to the present day activities.

Ms Angie, a long-time supporter of the Singapore Red Cross sang a number of songs whilst a group of Red Cross Youth entertained the crowd with cultural “Bhangra” dance, East Meets West type of performance. There was also band accompaniment by Mr Danny Koh and his group with hits from years gone by, whilst guests enjoyed their dinner.

President S.R. Nathan took to the stage accompanied by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Mr Khaw Boon Wan, as well as other distinguished guests for the cutting of the 60th Anniversary cake. After which, General Winston Choo, former chairman of the Singapore Red Cross, accepted a long service award and gave a speech reminiscing about the times when he was in office. Finally, Mr Alvaro Sanchez, a popular classical guitarist from Costa Rica serenaded guests with acoustic delights.

It was an honour and a privilege to be present and sharing all the great achievement of the Singapore Red Cross, for the past 60 years and surely many more to come. The MRC and SRC will continue to propagate the principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the region. Together we work closely for the good of mankind and peace for all.
